Softcover Book by Rachel Stern
Slow Morpheus is published by MATTE Edition with an essay by Tom Kalin
Rachel Stern is a photographer constructing temporary worlds for the camera’s vantage. In the spirit of ‘bread and roses’ her photo-based installations demand immediate access to beauty. At this intersection of beauty and power, her work is a kitsch paradise, a queer-washed history, and an attempt at hope. She received her BFA in Photography and Art History in 2011 from RISD, attended Skowhegan in 2014, and received her MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2016. Her work and exhibitions have received press from Hyperallergic, BOMB, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe.
